LEARNING FOR REAL

Nothing beats the real thing.

In this section you will find photographs and information related to the current academic year's events. Past events can be found in the EGIS Gallery .

Students have participated in residential trips to Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria and the Sinai. Where better to study Ancient and modern Egypt?

Younger students visiting Cairo attended an art village set amongst the fields with the Abu Sir pyramid in the background. The opportunity to compare localities (a Geography Curriculum requirement) is obvious. The bustling, vibrant metropolis of Cairo set against the quiet, relaxed atmosphere of El Gouna highlights many differences in architecture, lifestyle and infrastructure.

Luxor, famous for the Valley of the Kings, is a gem of a place for studying first hand, the remnants of a remarkable civilisation.

The famous pyramids of Giza, sailing on a felucca - little changed in hundreds of years - and the world's earliest monasteries are all marvellous resources we have access to. Motivating pupils and teachers in such a rich environment is an easy task.

As an integral part of El Gouna, E.G.I.S is given access to a host of services and facilities.
The nearby mountains are a wonderful resource for studying. They were formed by uplifting and folding as a result of plate tectonics. They are abundant with fossils exposed by erosion, and are a great resource for studying biology, geology and physical and human geography. Some of the wadis are inhabited by Bedouins and safaris by quad bike, camel, horse or 4 wheel drive are popular and available.

Glass bottom boats and submarines based in the town of Hurghada, 20kms away, afford students the chance of seeing marine wildlife and coral reefs up close without getting their feet wet. As the school is situated near the coast, we are able to investigate coastal habitat as well as the distinctive desert habitat.

Students, from Foundation 1 onwards, are able to explore and conduct surveys related to shops and services, environmental issues and weather patterns for example. Everything is either in walking distance or a short bus ride away. Observing the unique architecture, lagoons and general layout of El Gouna is also undertaken by boat.

Pupils are able to witness the process of turning a green coffee bean into a steaming expresso at the local coffee factory.

A horse stable, swimming pools, a pottery workshop with kiln and tennis courts are all available for school use.
